Christmas Creatures in Willow
12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 28 November / 9:30am - 5:00pm
Willow weaving is part of the Somerset identity. Records of willow weaving date back to approximately 10,000 years ago, and the Romans highly valued the Somerset willow weaving artisans. In the 1950's, willow weaving declined with the increase in plastic products. However, this creative, practical and beautiful artform continues to be practised here at the Newt.
In this workshop, artist and willow weaver, Stefan Jennings, guides you in creating your own animal in willow. The day begins with a brief introduction to your materials and equipment and a discussion about what you want to create. You shall then start your weave under the expert guidance of Stefan. You shall break for an indulgent picnic lunch at 1pm and complete your creation in the afternoon. The day finishes at 4pm, when you shall take your willow animal home with you.
All materials and equipment are provided. The day incudes coffee & pastries on arrival and an indulgent picnic lunch.
